About Intersectionality and the City
Intersectionality and the City began life as a one-day interdisciplinary workshop in 2019, co-convened by Dr Kennetta Hammond Perry and Dr Ben Whitham (see below). In 2020 we launched an edited blog as space to continue and develop the conversations started at that conference. We welcome submissions to the blog.
| Dr Kennetta Hammond Perry
Dr Perry is Reader in History and Director of the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre at De Montfort University. Her research interests include Black British history, transnational race politics, Black women’s history, archives of Black Europe, and anti-racist movements for citizenship, recognition and social justice throughout the African Diaspora, and she is the author of London Is The Place For Me: Black Britons, Citizenship and the Politics of Race(OUP, 2016). | Dr Ben Whitham
Ben is Lecturer in International Politics and a member of the Centre for Urban Research on Austerity, and sits on the academic steering committee of the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre, at De Montfort University. His research interests lie in the connections between intersecting social inequalities, including raced, classed and gendered inequalities, and policies, discourses and practices of (in)security. He is currently researching the ‘Intersectional Politics of Austerity and Islamophobia’, and his most recent article was published in the journal Security Dialogue (Sage, 2018).
